Fourteen Filipinos were reported missing after their fishing boat slammed into a Hong Kong-flagged cargo vessel off the coast of Occidental Mindoro, according to a report by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) early Monday.
The PCG already deployed BRP Boracay, its Islander plane, and Airbus HI45 in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro for the search and rescue mission. A multi-role response vessel is also set to augment the operations.
According to the PCG, the captain of Hong Kong-registered cargo vessel MV Vienna Wood on its way to Australia reported the collision with Philippine fishing boat FV Liberty 5 on Sunday.
The FV Liberty 5 carried Filipino fishermen onboard working for the Irma Fishing and Trading Company bound for Navotas Fish Port.
The PCG said that MV Vienna Wood will be brought to the Coast Guard’s headquarters in Batangas on Monday.
