As the Duterte administration eases the quarantine restrictions despite the alarmingly growing number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque encouraged Filipinos to ‘dance along’ with the contagious disease.
“Sa Pilipino, when you have to live with something, sayawan mo nalang pero… iyan po ang gagawin natin. Sasayawan po natin, we have to deal with COVID-19,” the Palace official said, citing that the country has to open its economy though it cannot afford to experience a second wave of infections.
Roque also stood by his earlier comment that the country is “winning” the battle against COVID-19. In the past few days, the country tallied the highest single-day record of positive cases, making the Philippines rank #2 in Southeast Asia in terms of the overall number of COVID-19 cases.
“I will always say, we are winning against COVID-19. Siguro po doon sa mga ayaw maniwalang nananalo tayo, sige po sa inyong mga personal na paninindigan, tanggapin po ninyo iyon,” Roque said.
As of July 7, the Philippines has 47,873 COVID-19 infections with 12,386 recoveries and 1,309 deaths.
