Congressmen slammed the officials of the Hatid Tulong program and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for snubbing the hearing on locally standed individuals (LSIs) on July 30.
The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability started its probe into the status of thousands of LSIs flocking at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, violating the government’s rule on physical distancing. The LSIs were waiting for trips back to their provinces, with some not wearing personal protective equipment like face shields and face masks.
House panel chair and Anakalusugan Party-List Representative Mike Defensor instructed the committee secretariat to write and send a “strongly worded letter” addressed to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año. While the said hearing was organized at the last minute, Defensor insisted that it shouldn’t be an excuse for Hatid Tulong and DILG officials to snub the summon of the committee, especially given the urgency of the matter at hand.
