Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte is supportive of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression Equality (SOGIE) bill but is still not in favor of same-sex marriage whether it’s religious or civil.
Whether be it church or civil, hindi po siya sang-ayon.
Duterte supports the passage of the measure which aims to provide protection for members of the LGBT community from discrimination, harassment, and violence and penalize those who commit such offense, but he will let Congress decide on the details of the bill.
The president initially expressed support for legalizing gay marriage but later backtracked his position, claiming that marriage in the Philippines, a predominantly Catholic nation, is only between a man and a woman.
