President Rodrigo Duterte has downgraded the quarantine classification in Cebu City from the more stringent modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) to the more relaxed general community quarantine (GCQ). Talisay City, Minglanilla, and Consolacion in Cebu province will also be under GCQ.
Duterte also announced his decision to retain the GCQ status in Metro Manila which has recorded 48,389 COVID-19 cases as of June 30. The Department of Health’s (DOH) COVID-19 tracker shows that 34,489 have already recovered and 1,013 died from the infectious disease in the region.
The provinces of Bulacan, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, as well as the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, and Zamboanga, will also be under GCQ beginning August 1. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be under modified GCQ until August 15.
