The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that public utility buses, modern public vehicles, and UV Express may operate at limited capacity in areas under the general community quarantine (GCQ) starting on Monday (June 22).
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that buses should run at half of their capacity. Modern jeeps may ferry only up to 20% of their passenger capacity to ensure the one-meter physical distance rule, according to Bert Suansing, DOTr road sector consultant.
Meanwhile, UV Express units will be allowed up to carry up to nine passengers per trip, said Rosalino Marable, Coalition of Operators and Drivers of UV Express Atbp. (CODEX) President. He added that the P2-fare hike proposal will push through, noting that the last fare increase was 14 years ago.
Around 3,600 units and 1,600 other vehicles are expected by the government to hit the roads on Monday.
