Senator Grace Poe urged telecommunications companies (telcos) to name government regulators who contribute to the delays and inefficiencies of their services, pointing out that the administration should not corner telcos for failing to improve.
“We are not saying that telcos are not entirely liable. If the issue is really about the issuance of permits, telcos should have spoken up and revealed who are these people giving them a hard time,” said Poe. Poe called out to local officials not to pressure telcos amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Senator Panfilo Lacson expressed the same sentiments, saying that President Rodrigo Duterte should have also issued a stern warning against local officials allegedly extorting money from telcos in exchange for licenses.
