In his report to President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday evening, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said that the number of telecommunication applications that have been approved has increased to 1,215.
“Sa atin naman pong mga telcos application, sabi ko nga po bumilis na po. Nung isang linggo po ay 1,171 ang na-approve. Tumaas na po sa 1,215 [ang] approved at ‘yung natitira pong pending application ay sisiguraduhin namin… lumabas kaagad ang approval,” Año said.
The DILG chief earlier reported that from 574, some 1,171 telco permits were approved, with only 428 new pending applications.
He commended Manila for the “one time’’ approval of all the applications of telecommunication companies in the city. With this, he urged all the other LGUs to follow suit to speed up the approvals to improve the country’s Internet service.
Año also noted the automatic rollout of the “telcos’’ in the construction of Passive Telecom Tower Infrastructure (PTTIs) as mandated under the Bayanihan 2.
He explained that except for the building permit and the night clearance permit, all other previous required permits were already waived, meaning that in the next three years, the application of the telecommunications firms with the said requirements will be automatically approved.
The DILG, Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), and other national government agencies (NGAs) have already agreed to streamline the documentary requirements and processing time for building permit applications on shared PTTIs.
